Yellowjackets follows a high school girls’ soccer team stranded in the wilderness after a plane crash, where survival slowly gives way to instinct, fear, and fractured loyalty.
PRE-PRODUCTION
The creative direction of this project visualizes that transformation by drawing parallels between the girls and wild animals, focusing on the tension between memory and survival. The visual language combines torn archival imagery, raw textures, and field-journal mark-making, layered with blood stains, scratches, and fragmented compositions. Together, these elements create a raw and unsettling atmosphere that reflects the loss of innocence and the emergence of primal instinct.
Two visual directions were explored for the show. The first embraced a dark, grungy tone built from torn paper edges, cryptic typography, and sharp flash cuts, drawing a haunting parallel between wild predators and the team’s gradual descent into a feral pack.
The second direction took a more primal collage approach, inspired by biology diagrams, torn journals, and fragmented memories. This language highlights the shift from disciplined athletes to instinct-driven survivors, revealing a world where survival begins to overpower humanity.
